Jumbo to spend Dh5m in Dubai Shopping Festival

Jumbo Electronics, a leading retailer in consumer electronics and technology, has set aside a budget of Dh5 million for the Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) 2006. It unveiled a mega campaign that will give shoppers an opportunity to win prizes worth Dh500,000 during the festival.

"We have focused on making this DSF bigger and better than ever by offering customers numerous opportunities to win, combined with a memorable shopping experience," says J.P. Nambiar, general manager of Jumbo's retail division.

Jumbo's DSF campaign will be the biggest ever, giving shoppers endless opportunities to win 100 grams of gold everyday and win a range of prizes daily for 45 days - extended for this year. "As a key sponsor for the 11th successive event, we have lined up a range of offers from all the renowned brands that we represent,, as a demonstration of Jumbo's commitment to our valued customers. We will create a big buzz during the event by surprising and pampering shoppers with loads of prizes and the best product bundles and deals, to drive home the point that Jumbo is the 'Electronics Destination of DSF'," he said.

To be eligible for prizes, shoppers must spend at least Dh500 at any Jumbo outlet and will receive a coupon for daily draws. Ebrahim Saleh, Chief Operating Officer of DSF, says: "The partnership with Jumbo as a founder sponsor underlines the growing cooperation between the private sector and the Dubai Government for various initiatives that benefit the economy of the emirate."

During DSF, Jumbo expects growth of 1.7 times the normal sales. Nambiar says Jumbo's retail division has recorded growth 45 per cent on a year-to-year basis for the past three to four years.

Saleh says since its inception in 1996, the concept of DSF has been growing each year. DSF 2005 had 3.3 million visitors - registering a six per cent growth, while spending crossed Dh6.6 billion, registering a 15 per cent increase over the previous year. This year's spending is going to be about Dh8 billion and we expect another 10-15 per cent rise in tourists.
