DSF boosts local sales by 20%

Dubai: Industry experts have said the electronics and electrical appliances markets witnessed a surge in sales during the recent festive season.

They added that an increase of 15 to 20 per cent was recorded compared to normal business days and that when it came to electronics, Dubai was a major attraction for resident shoppers and regional and international visitors due to the many promotions organised by shopping malls and retail outlets.

"DSF has contributed immensely to the retail markets and the different economic sectors and continues to do so since it attracts a large number of visitors from all over the world thereby increasing the number of shoppers in the country," said Laila Suhail, chief marketing officer of Dubai Shopping Festival.

"Dubai is one of the main markets in the region that receives the latest electronics and electrical appliances as it is considered to be a window for re-export to regional markets due to the ports and the excellent infrastructure provided," she added.

Paras Shahdadpuri, chairman of the Nikai Group, said: "The local markets usually witness an increase of 20 per cent in sales during DSF as it attracts a lot of visitors from outside the country, and we are witnessing the same trend this DSF. The increase will remain between 15 and 20 per cent until the end of the shopping festival."

Deepak Babani, chief executive of EROS Group said: "DSF has become an internationally renowned event where visitors and shoppers come in the millions to shop and EROS is participating in this shopping celebration by providing unbelievable promotions. Most shoppers wait for DSF to avail of the huge discounts offered for high quality brands that are showcased."
