DUBAI MEDIA NEWS
With the new responsibilities for audiovisual and media policies our Directorate General brings together all three aspects of modern day electronic communications –in the fields of broadcasting, computer networks and of electronic communication services.
In this day and age, all sectors of economic activity depend heavily on information and communication technologies. Our work will be to ensure that policies are coupled with the deployment of advanced and easily accessible technologies throughout Europe, for businesses and for the benefit of our society as a whole. We will do so by:
Carrying forward the Commission’s general policy objectives, in particular the Lisbon Process and goals, through coherent and targeted actions on information society policies and research, the audio-visual sector and media.
Promoting a European Information Society (IS) founded on innovation, creativity and inclusion.
Supporting innovation by stimulating the competitiveness of the ICT sector and ICT based products and services and excellence in research, by improving the enabling environment for ICT-based innovations and by promoting the widest and most effective take-up of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), especially amongst small and medium sized enterprises.
Fostering creativity by encouraging the growth of new and emerging markets particularly in the areas of media and digital content.
Encouraging inclusion by assisting widespread access to ICT and use of ICT-based services for both citizens and businesses
Bringing the Information Society (IS) closer to people and to businesses by raising the visibility and impact of IS and media policies at EU and Member State level.
All Commission policies and activities driving the development of Europe's Information Society - not just this DG - are presented in "Europe's Information Society: Thematic |
