Logos Hope, an international floating book fair which brings knowledge, help, and hope to millions of people around the world, is visiting the 16th edition of Dubai Shopping Festival at Port Rashid.

Supported by DP World, and promoted as a main DSF 2011 event, the nine-deck Logos Hope presents a one of a kind floating book fair that offers visitors and the UAE residents a chance to support charity during the festival by acquiring books, the revenues of which are directed towards charity work worldwide.

Built in 1973, Logos Hope offers a stock of half-a-million books to choose from for all age groups, spread over an area 610 square meters. The ship will remain docked in Dubai from January 22 until February 6, and the book fair will open from 1:00 pm to 10:30 pm from Saturday to Wednesday; and from 4:00 pm until 10:30 pm on Thursdays and Fridays. There is also a special visiting slot for ladies & families on Sundays and Wednesdays from 10:00 am until 1:00 pm. Entrance is free for all. It then continues its journey to Abu Dhabi, from February 7-19, 2011.

In Dubai, this noble initiative has received a grand welcome by Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment (DEPE), an agency of Dubai Department of Economic Development and organizers of the Dubai Shopping Festival, as a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiative, especially as Logos Hope’s sister ship Doulos was also a guest of the festival 15 years ago in its first edition.

Third Family Health Festival officially inaugurated with the ‘Safe at Heart’ initiative
The third annual Family Health Festival endorsed by the Ministry of Health and Dubai Shopping Festival (DFS) and sponsored by AstraZeneca, officially kicked off today (January 29) to bring the latest health information to visitors of this year’s Dubai Shopping Festival. The event was inaugurated by His Excellency Dr Hanif Hassan Ali, UAE Minister of Health, and attended by Ibrahim Saleh, Festivals Coordinator General and Deputy CEO of Dubai Events and Promotions Establishment.

This year’s primary focus of Family Health Festival is based on AstraZeneca’s Safe at Heart Initiative, which aims to raise awareness about the growing burden and prevention of cardiovascular disease in the region. For the third consecutive year, Safe at Heart is visiting an array of venues including shopping malls, select external DSF locations and corporate houses to empower the public to understand address and prevent common health conditions. Specific activities will highlight cholesterol awareness through preventive screenings and education.

"DSF has always been sensitive about generating awareness effectively on several health issues. We have partnered with the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders in the past to deliver such information through very innovative channels. An event of this nature is perfectly suited to do this as people are relaxed and in a mood to absorb. DSF is an ideal platform to bring to their notice in a fun manner issues that could affect their lives. We are proud to be associated with the third edition of this very unique concept," said Ibrahim Saleh, Festivals Coordinator General and Deputy CEO of DEPE.
